Preparations!

The youth from Centerville Presbyterian Church are gearing up to go to Ganado, Arizona.  Ganado, Arizona is in the middle of the Navajo reservation and is home to the Ganado Presbyterian Church.  I, along with approximately 35 others are getting ready to go on a short-term missions trip just after Easter service.  Everyone involved is giving of their resources, their labor, and most importantly, their love and time.  We are all learning that even though we are going to do work projects on the grounds of the church and beyond, our real purpose is to make connections with the people of Ganado and, through relationships, show the love of Jesus.

The Dine (Dih Nay) people (how the Navajo people refer to themselves) are loving, friendly, and warm.  I have been lucky enough to have gone twice already and am looking forward to being one small part of the team that is taking a new group of high school students to this wonderful place.  We are all anxiously looking forward to the challenges and the rewards we will face in embarking on this journey.

I will be keeping people up to date with posts about our trip while we are away but wanted to give you sneak peak into some of the comings and goings involved in our trip.  The first day we will travel straight through to Kingman, AZ where we hope to spend the night in a church who will host us.  The church where we were planning to stay has had a conflict and will not be able to host us.  We will then travel the next day to arrive at the Mission in time to promote the VBS (Vacation Bible School) we are planning.  The next day we are going to explore the surrounding area, do some hiking, and visit the oldest continually operating trading post in North America.  The next three days will include VBS, work projects, and getting to know the Dine people.  Following the final VBS we will load into the three vans and one truck to head back to Kingman for the night.  The following morning, EARLY, we will load up and travel back to C.P.C. to end a whirlwind week and re-enter the world of school and work, tired and changed in ways that can only be understood by going.

If you would like to be part of this journey we would appreciate the following things.  We are looking for prayers for safe travel.  There are prayer cards at the church where people can choose individuals to pray for specific needs.  The children at church have been praying for us and collecting money to purchase a water heater for a member of their church who has no hot water. Additionally, there is a wall of giving inside the gym.  It is set up with envelopes with dollar amounts written on each.  To donate, just take an envelope with an amount you would like to give, insert that amount, and give it to the church office.  Thank you in advance for any and all support you are able to give.

I intend to update this site as situations warrant.  I want to keep everyone up to date with the wonderful work that God is allowing us to do.
